having one linked table slows everything

There are many posts relating to slow performance and linked tables, but
none seem to answer this query.

Why is it that as soon as I put a linked table into the .mdb (linked
through
Broadband VPN to another .mdb) the whole thing slows down. Even opening
Access 2000. I have tried changing the subdatasheet name on the remote table
(table being linked to) to 'none' but this hasn't made a difference.

thanks for help,
Jo

Joss,

Read Albert Kallal's paper and see if this answers your question:

thanks. Tried the trick with creating the permanent link with a bound form
and that worked wonders. Also, learnt about upsizing and it seems that may
be even better. Question about that in subsequent posts......!
