Have two XP os's on same partition on a basic drive

The original os that came with the computer still works but in an overzealous
(and ignorant) attempt to fix several problems I installed the same os on the
same partition. I can't access the newer os it won't even start up. When I
start the computer I have to choose between the two and I believe that it is
causing me no end of problems. Also, I've been trying to fix my computer and
delete several viruses/trojans using system mechanic 6 professional and
Kapersky Anti-virus personnal. After scanning for almost 6 hours it could not
delete anything because it says that all that the disk is locked I think it's
related to this os problem but if not I need to know how to unlock my disk so
I can clean it up. Thank you for any help you can offer.
