have equation captions like (1)

Dear all

I want to have equation captions like (1),(2),etc. I can have them as ( 1),
(2), etc by making a new lable as ( , but cannot get rid of the space between
the first paranthesis and the number. How can I do that?

Maybe you should read the answer given only 2.5 hours ago to your
exact same question.

As alternative to the original answer: if I only require numbering (no
TOC, ...), I prefer the use of a SEQ field (Insert tab -> Quick Parts -

Field ...). No issue with spaces there.
