Have email in outbox that cannot delete

I have an email in my outbox that I cannot delete. I don't know if this
makes a difference or not, but when the message is highlighted/clicked on,
there's no message. It tells me message cannot be displayed. Every time I
try to delete it, it tells me an unknown error has occurred. Thus, I cannot
send any other emails until this one is gotten rid of. Can you please help??
Thanks.

Hi, Heather.

As with the hundreds of others (including myself!) who have had this
problem, the best solution we've come up with yet is MVP Steve Cochran's
WMUtil.exe. Get it free here:
http://www.oehelp.com/WMUtil/

Download it, run it, and follow instructions carefully.

Then, like me, you might want to switch from Windows Mail to (still beta,
but working well for me) Windows Live Mail beta (build 12.0.1184). If you
want to try it, go here:
Windows Live Mail Beta
http://get.live.com/betas/maildesktop_betas

For support from other WLM users, see this newsgroup:
news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsoft.public.windows.live.mail.desktop

Note that, although the name "desktop" was retired in May, it still appears
in several places. But WLM beta is much better than WLMd beta.

Hi, Domingo.

You're welcome, but Steve Cochran is the one who deserves the thanks. ;<)

And I hope it helped Heather, too.

Thanks for the feedback.

I downloaded the WMUtil.exe but could nopt run it because the Clear Outbox
button was grayed out. I closed Windows mail and follwed the instruction to
"end process" on Winmail.exe. How can I get the utility to run? I have the
same problem described here on 2 email accounts.

You say you did the "end process" but was it successful in removing
WinMail.exe from the list of running processes? Also, be sure to
click "Show processes from all users".

If you end process WinMail.exe then the Clear Outbox and other database
functions will become enabled.

Terrific! Thanks a bunch, Gary & Steve. The utility worked as advertised,
once I followed the "Also, be sure to click 'Show processes from all users' "
tip.

Thanks for the feedback, DW.

Steve, you should probably include that 'Show processes from all users'
in the instructions.

Hi Gary,

I have tried manually deleting a message that will not go away in my outbox,
and have installed and run WMUtil, but the message clogging up the outbox
persists. I have also tried to install Live Beta mail and it will not load.
Says I do not have the system requirements. When I checked system
requirements, my system more than measures up. Am running Vista Ultimate on a
new HP Pavillon dv9000 laptop.
Any other suggestions I should try?

Thanks,
Bruce

Hi
Just to say that the exact same problem occurred to me. An email could not
be deleted from my outbox and it prevented me from sending any emails at all
I followed advice from you and downloaded Windows Live. Its fine now and
seems tobe more user friendly. I was able to export all my contacts too
Thank you so much for your advice
