If you going to point to some website please do it as a last resort and

How many times I have looked at the webpage suggested only to find that it
either had nothing relevant to my question or there was so much info that I
just did not bother to read it. Even worse is when you actually then have to
do your own search on the suggested web page.

and take another look at it", you can bet some will point the person to a
page that explains Windows XP Backup!

I have no way of knowing how many times you have viewed a suggested web page
and found that it had nothing relevant to your question or that there was so
much info that you didn't bother to read it (the latter sounds like you
expect every answer to be simple/uncomplicated. *grin*.)

Personally - I think the OP should have to do a little "searching" on their
own to get an answer.. Otherwise they will continue the same habits that
got them here in the first place and products like this "OneCare" that
Microsoft is creating become the norm of security and things continue to
deteriate instead of getting better.

A little effort to not only fix a problem but learn why it occurred and how
to prevent it from happening again seems like something good to me. I'm not
saying a user should become an expert system administrator - but learning
proper maintenance for your system is no different than learning that (in
the mechanical world) keeping something clean can extend its useful life or
that keeping some things "oiled" can keep them functioning far beyond their
expected lives..

There is also many time multiple ways to fix something.. One way may be
more intuitive to certain people than others (and vice-versa.) So a web
page may have several descriptions for the same "fix", however - different
methods of getting to the end-result. For example - many things can be done
through registry edits - and I can describe them in detail - but that level
of involvement may be "too much" for some to follow and it would be easier
for them to use something like "MS PowerToys TweakUI" to do the same thing.
Listing the many ways to do one thing in a single response could become
quite long - and never compare to the detail that may already exist out
there.

In other words - why reinvent the wheel when there already are detailed
instructions on how to do it out there in several different ways?

I have no doubt that some may answer using links they googled for - if that
wasn't a skill, then there would be no questions here to answer in such
ways. *grin* Seriously - I state my original answer:

Also answers have to account for the skill/understanding level of the
poster. That can only be guessed at, based on the descriptions they
provide. Some people can handle Registry edits, while others cannot,
so do you give the same answer to each ? It's like the grocery store
"Plastic or Paper" - both do the same thing, but each one has it's own
advantages.

I don't want to sound like I'm snaping on the MVPs here,However, I have
to agree to some point with Pavel.
If a person is in need of help and they'er directed to Kelly's or Doug's
sites,Then the amount of information presented to them is quite
overwhelming.
Two or more years ago, if a question was asked, a answer was given here
in this forum.
Last year I asked how to get XP's windows explorer to open on my C:
drive and after going through Kelly's site for over an hour and not
finding the information I needed, I said to #$&% with it.
Do not take this as critisim, because it is not ment to be so. I have
always appreciated what you guys do with reguards to the "FREE" help you
supply to users of Windows. I would, however, like to see Kelly and Doug
make thier sites more navagational in reguards to finding answers to
problems.
Not flaming anyone here, just voicing my opinion,

Why do you expect others to post answers in a format to suit you? What
about those that prefer to be directed to a link? Would you suggest the
person answering first ask if you would like it in link form or text
summary form - or maybe they should they just post it in both formats?

Geez, take each answer for the benefit it provides and move on to the
next. If it doesn't help, look elsewhere.
