Hi, :)

1.
Disk is 160GB.
Old bios limit was 129 GB for a partition.
The drive identity is not a limit but a matter of LBA.
Windows XP will allow 137 GB with bios.
Windows XP with SP1 with 48 bit addressing goes over 137
GB but only if bios support it. So you would need a bios
upgrade or a new disk controller with the bios (and
driver)

Make smaller partitions. Exmaple on a 160 GB
You have to calulate the sectors with math, like 38,427 =
37.?) Trail and error works up to a point but the last
partition will be off a bit. Leave 5 MB free at the end.

(35.5, 37.5, 37.5, 18, 9.5,9.5)
Two primarry, then extended and logicall.
You can change the logical around as needed over time.
second, in the start bar on the right side where is has, (my documents, my
pictures etc.), i have moved all of my music files to the 160 gig drive
(drive E). now when i click on the "my music" folder it shows that it is
empty. i will assume that it is looking in the original drive (drive C); how
do i go about to change it to where it will look in the storage drive for the
folder?

It's too complicated, click on the E:/NEW-MUSIC folder,
instead.
Change the program you save music with to point to the E:
folder if you can, or do a save as.
Share the folder if needed.
last but not least.
i want to start off with is fresh drive for XP. (drive c), i am going to do
a partion for the O.S. but i can't find the key code for it. how exactly to
you retrieve the key code from the pc? thank you

Ask Dell or ask them to point you to a link or do a
search on MS.
The link to the tool is on here somewhere a few times a
least. Maybe an "M" person will se this and tell you.

The WDC WD1600...
is 152.625 GB to be exact. :)

A disk MB = 1,000,000
A real mb = 1,048,576
