Has the Invert Selection option been removed from Vista?. In XP a very
useful feature was Edit > Invert Selection when selecting multiple
files, can't see it in Explorer > Organize.

It's still there - you need to turn on the Menu Bar (Organize-Layout-Menu
Bar) and it's under Edit...

Like Gordon said, it is still there. But rather than turning the menu bar
on all the time, you can also just hit Alt which will make it pop up
temporarily.

I'd forgotten that... ;-)

Just press CTRL+A

It's much faster to use keyboard shortcuts, and you'd be used to having your
left hand at the bottom left corner of the keyboard all the time if you used
apps like CAD and graphics programs, as the CTRL, ALT, SHIFT and SPACE keys
are used so much for operations. CTRL is used in combination with other
letters, which are used in the same way in all applications.

CTRL + A select all
CTRL + X cut
CTRL + C copy
CTRL + V paste
CTRL + Q close
CTRL + S save
CTRL + Z undo
etc..

Thanks !
I'm not much of a mouse person myself, much preferring to use the
run command to launch the progs I use regularly in conjunction with the
Ctrl + key strokes, much quicker as you note.
EG winkey + pause/break gets you into Device Manager faster than wading
through Control Panel.

Yes MS seems to be keen on protecting us from ourselves by hiding
things, but is it really necessary ?

No, it's not, but it is one of the reasons a lot of people are turned off by
Vista. By a lot of people, I mean everyone that got intimate with the
workings XP. If you've never had your fingers on a computer, you don't know
what MS has hidden.

Exactly, all the rearranging and changing didn't provide any new
functionality or security, it just frustrated people who had become
accustomed to doing things a certain way.
If I wanted a 'different' interface, I would have bought a Mac.
MS tried to make Vista look like a Mac. After all, Apple rules the OS
market...don't they?
They not only failed, they screwed things up bigtime.
I wonder how they are doing walking on that artificial foot since they shot
the real one off & tossed it in the Vista grinder.
If Vista & that terrible new Office with the weird ribbon is the best MS can
do, they're in big trouble.
I think MS should send all those laid off AOL programmers they hired back
where they came from...

I have to say that I have not found anything "hidden" in Vista that was
explicit in XP - it's just in a slightly different place...

Well Gordon unless I am mistaken the tool bar containing file, edit etc
is not visible by default in Windows Explorer, only asking here
revealed it.
There are other things that are harder to access in Vista as
opposed to XP [almost hidden IMHO], just seems MS have made thinks
harder for new users [of which I am not].
Merely my own opinion YMMV.
