Has Norton become a problem?

I'd like a show of hands, and not a "let's-bash-a-big-name-product" thing.
As a free-lance IT consultant, I'm on computers every day. I probably have
more trouble with Norton Anti-V than any other program I see (besides the
usuall Kazaa, iMesh, AIM glue). Today I spent 5 hours uninstalling, then
another hour on the phone without even reaching a real person. I'm going to
uninstall and use EZ Armour now.

So, is it just me or is everyone seeing problems with Norton on a regular
basis like I do?

Heck, I'm with you. I bought my PC, had Norton virus and firewall installed
at the store. Got hacked within 3 days, didn't know til months later. I'm
using Zone Alarm, except haven't been able to go online with DSL, so that is
also frustrating. Had to disable Zone. I don't like Norton at all because
it didn't protect me one bit. Had over 2,000 bugs, trojans, etc. on my PC.
I think I'll check out EZ Armour. Seems like all the software is problematic
in one way or another.

I have to say that I've never had good experiences with Norton. I use EZ
Armor and it's been smooth sailing for over a year.

I've not experience too many problems with Norton - currently using Norton
System Works 2005 Premier, but have been using their products since the DOS
days. I just take a little time each new release to get acquainted with the
changes and any new software nuances.

My tablet pc has never been well since sp2 and ms security center were
created, as against norton internet & anti-spam. Anyone else getting the
MSIExplorer error message 'can't save file name blank' when starting Norton
Internet Security (or other programs)? I then get a flurry of ms security
info popup windows from msie to the effect that an empty file can/should not
be saved. Annoying as heck, and enough for me to be actively looking for
alternatives. My best guess is that it is a Norton uninstall problem, but
believe me I have been through the lengthly, convoluted Norton/Symantec
uninstall/reinstall process--to no avail.

I deal with Norton on a daily basis as an IT Security Tech and I have found
that NAV is:

1. Unreliable
2. Integrates to extensively with ANY Windows OS by way of SYMEVNT causing
unpredictable behavior
3. Unreliable

Do a scan on a computer that is known to have viruses or is highly suspect
at Trendmicro Online as an example and Norton only "finds" the virus AFTER
Trend and then pops up as if to say "Look how well I'm protecting your
system"- Lets get real-----That kind of "protection" no one needs.

For AV protection I use and recommend Avast AV Home Edition to my clients.
It is a simply, straight foward solution that is FREE and extremely effective.

As for Firewalls Sygates Free Personal Firewall is great for most situations
that home users would encounter.

I have been using Norton products for years, both on my personal computers
and on the computers at work that fall under my control. I very rarely
experience any problems at all with Norton products. I am currently in the
process of migrating from 2004 to 2005 versions. I would not use anything
else on my systems.
