Harware Installation Continuously running

I'm having a problem with attacing any external hardware,
ie camera or external harddrive. The computer recognises
them but none display in windows explorer and on adding
other new hardware windows says that there is a hardware
installation already running even after rebooting the
computer. has anyone else found this problem if so how do
i solve it?

Does the external hard drive show up in Disk Management? What does Disk
Management tell you about that HD?

Many users haven't found that built-in utility. There are several ways to
get to it; one way is to type at the Run prompt: diskmgmt.msc

Some cameras require drivers from their manufacturers. Have you visited the
camera maker's website?
