Hardware upgrade: Promise driver issues

S

SCOTT

Problem Description: Computer was working
fine...........then I thought I would make a
Hardware upgrade:
Replace older promise FasTrak 100 TX2 which was working.
Installed new 'Promise TX2000FastTrak IDE RAID card'

Also switched out the existing two 40GB HD's, and
replaced them with two new WesternDigital 80GB hard
Drives.

Install ok, set up an array, used the disk ck to ck for
errors. All seemed fine.

There was a device manger issue:
The 'SCSI and RAID controllers' listed the new 'Win XP
Promise FastTrak TX2000 controller and the promise driver
as installed and working.

However, under 'Disk Drives' I kept getting a yellow
exclamation mark under disk drives for the new HD's. It
was listed as 'Promise 2+0 Stripe/Raid 0 SCSI Disk Device'
The Hardware installer keeps saying the driver would not
install and that there is a problem with this service.

It would not load the promise drive!? It did load the
PartMgr.sys drive 5.1.2600.0 (XPClient 010817-1148) I am
unsure which driver should be installed:
Windows/Promise/WesternDigital?

When I tried to copy large amounts of data back onto this
new partitioned array I would get a Blu screen.
The first blue screen error string is:
0x0000007e (0xC0000005, 0x8051D9EC, 0xF78c6A80,
0xF78c6780)

I also get this same yellow exclamation mark message when
I hook up my new 160GB Maxtor external HD. It will not
install the maxtor driver.
The Hardware installer keeps saying the driver would not
install and that there is a problem with this service.
It did load the PartMgr.sys drive 5.1.2600.0 (XPClient
010817-1148)

It shows up on the explorer and works but it went blu
screen after trying to defrag the big Partition on my new
Maxtor external firewire HD.
The Second blu screen error string is:
0x0000007e (0xC0000005, 0x783EA83, 0xF789E19C,
0xF789DE9C)

I got another blu screen error when I tried to defrag the
FAT32 drive on the Maxtor
0x000000A (0xF3BBA1B8, 0X0000002, 0X00000000, 0X80515881)

Microsoft said to talk to Promise and Promise said to
talk to Microsoft?!?!
Microsoft has a 'Online Crash Analysis ' but I have no
idea how to make it work?

I have two computers and have never had these problems
with promise hardware.
The Maxtor external works just fine on the other computer
running win 2000 pro

You need to install the newer TX200FastTrak drivers. It is never guarantied
that the older drivers would work with the newer card.

Dear Yves,
I would luv to install the TX2000 driver( I assume you mean under the disk drive in device manager) but it will not install. I have tried every way I can think of to install uninstall, install again and all the variations in device manager. By the way what do you mean by newer TX2000 driver, what version are you talking about?
