All

can anybody help please.

I am running several XP prof. PCs on an NT4 network.

The problem is that a couple of them that have hardware attached (Neg
scanner and breathing apparatus monitor)
only work when logged in as admin.

I have tried adding the user to the admin group , installing the
drivers/software , then removing the user, but that does
not work.

Any ideas please ??

Chris,

There are a couple of things you can try - here's why I'd start: First, make
sure the user has edit rights to the actual folder on the hard disk where
the program is installed. For instance c:\program files\breathing monitor
program - so you would right click the "Breathing monitor program" folder,
go to properties, go to security, and give them rights to edit that folder.

Sometimes, the above is all that's required. Often times, however, it's not.
If the above doesn't work, try this: open your registry (start - run -
regedit). Expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software - find the software key (yellow
folder) on the left, highlight it, right click it, and go to permissions.
Give the user rights here as well.

You'll need to be logged in as admin to do the above. There also might be
associated registry keys under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software. Do the same as
above.

There are more things to try, but this usually cover 95% of these types of
issues.

Post back if this doesn't work, or if you need more clarification.
