Harddrive

I switched my boot drive to be a storage drive.
I reformatted it to get rid all of the files in there. I successfully did it.
I transferred many files into that drive.
Yesterday, that drive started to disappear from my computer.
Then I reconnected the cable and got it back. Unfortunately, I only a small portion of the drive with the old files from the boot drive. My precious files are no where to be seen.
Is it possible to get it back?

It was a very large drive, more than 500gb. Now, I can only see about 200 gb.
What happened?
Thanks

I presume you wanted none of those files. But often mail is stuck on the
OS partition.

From where did these files come? Why don't you have the source of the
files?

There is no mention of operating system here. Kind of hard to diagnose
in a vacuum.

I would make a Parted Magic CD and look at the partitions on the drives.
Don't try to fix anything. Just use it to poke around and see what it
there. Note the names of the partitions, size, and how much data is in them.

It is almost never a good idea to try to keep an old drive. I totally
understand the concept of "well it works and I paid good money for it",
but ultimately the old drive will fail.

If hard drives would just disappear like gasoline, we wouldn't be so
attached to them. But they sit there and remind us of what it cost to
buy them. I buy enough gas to get a 4tb drive a month. It is all
relative ya know.

I just took that drive out of the computer completely and learn that that was the 1TB drive.
The worse part is that the other drives are still there on the computer. It means that mmy elusion was just an elusion.
It seems that the drive never showed up at all. Something else had happened.

This was very hot when I got it out. Now I hae the hard dricve that it's not even working. I aasume.

Just because your OS can't see a drive, doesn't mean it isn't there.
Again, you haven't told us what OS you are using.

Again, burn a copy of Parted Magic and look around. You will see all the
drives and partitions. Just look, don't alter anything.

You really don't have to remove drives to see the capacity. This can all
be done with the computer.

I'm sorry. We're using Windows 7 ultimate.
