My Hard Drive partioned into 3 partions C D and E all have the autorun
option in the properties tab. I have checked for the autorun.inf file
and have found nothing.

Does anyone know why I have this option in my hard drive properties?
and how to remove it?

My Hard drive is a Samsung Spinpoint SATA2 drive.
OS is XP sp2
Mobo is Asus a8n-dlx

Would really appreciate help on this.

Thanks

Thanks Ron you have been of great help.........

I presume that having the autoplay tab is normal.

It does seem to be VERY strange that a hard drive would have an
autoplay tab - does it affect performance? and is it possible to
remove it?

It cannot be removed.

Click on the AutoPlay tab.
Click Select an action to perform.
Take no action.

Do this for each partition.

For AutoPlay to function, a computer has to check if a device is ready to
use.
These actions trigger a device being ready to use:
Insert a CD
Connect to a USB port
Connect a sata drive
...........

Your computer is checking every ? seconds.
If something is found and an action is called for (ex. play a music CD),
then the computer will perform the action.

By selecting Take no action, the polling and perform an action will not
occur so there will be no performance affect.
