Harddrive access

Still having troubles with the computer accessing the harddrive about every 3
seconds with the mouse pointer Busy hourglass appearing at the same time. The
computer also seams slower. This is after a freah install of xp

How would the computer access the hard drive with the mouse pointer?
Assuming you meant simply accessing the hard drive every 3 seconds, it could
be a number of things.
One of the things could be the indexing service.
Also, do you have anti-virus installed? Are you performing Windows updates?

open task manager click the CPU column at the top and see what is accessing the computer.
