My hard drive is running out of space and I'm trying to delete whatever I
can, however, I do not know if I can delete any of the following:

Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for applications 2.0-ENU
Microsoft Visual Studio Tools for applications 2.0- Runtime
Modem Helper
Modem on hold
Picture gear 4.1 Lite
QuickStores Toolbar 1.0.0
Smart Sound Quicktracks for Premiere Elements 8.0
SoundMax
Tru Switch Wizard for AT&T members
Viewpoint Media Player
Interactual Player

and a funny one: Microsoft Office XP Professional, but I have the Home
edition (????)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Only you know what you can or can't delete. Why don't you google for them
and see whether you use them?

How big is your hard drive?

How about adding a bigger hard drive to your system and move your data,
music, pictures, etc, to it.

I don't think you will gain that much space removing what you list.

BTW one item I would leave alone is SoundMax, it is related to the built-in
sound device of your computer.

Uninstall any of the applications you don't use from Add/Remove Programs.
Don't "delete" their files. If you think you will use any of these
applications in the future, make sure you have the installation media or
you'll be out of luck.

Office XP Professional is a word processing application like Microsoft
Office. It can be installed on either Windows XP Home or Professional; it's
not part of the operating system.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

You paid good money for these applications when you bought the computer, why
throw them away? Buy another hard drive, put it in the machine, and move your
documents, pictures, movie files, and music files to the new drive. These are
the files that are eating up your drive space.

Some of the other posts have good advice, especially about uninstalling
anything you don't/won't use.
But that's only going to be a band-aid approach and it won't be long before
you're back with the same question again.
The best solution is to get a larger hard drive and replace your current
small drive with it. A new drive should even come with software for copying
everything off the old drive and onto the new drive as long as the new drive
is the same size or larger. You gave no information on your current system,
so I can't make any size recomendations or anything else either. More
details would get you a lot better responses.
Drives are very cheap these days. Take a look at some of the better ones:
Maxtor, Seagate, Western Digital, Acom, and the list goes on. Prices vary
widely so when you find something you like, look for other places that
supply the same thing; you might find better prices. I often find the mfr's
themselves will offer the best or next to best price and I try to buy
directly from them just for the support they offer.

Viewpoint Media Player is a "phone-home" bug. AOL bought it about
three/four years ago. WHY would they?

Per Doum:
How about adding a bigger hard drive to your system and move your data,
music, pictures, etc, to it.

+1 on the hard drive thing.

Also invest the extra effort in figuring out how to make sure
that *ALL* data goes on the new drive... "Favorites",
"MyDocuments"... default paths in Office apps.... the whole
enchilada....to the extent that you could re-install the OS and
not lose anything.

Takes awhile, but once you adopt that discipline and do regular
backups you're pretty much bulletproof. Imaging the "good"
system would be an added convenience factor/time saver, but not
essential.

That being said, do you have Windows Automatic Updates turned on?

If so, find out where it keeps the backup files. That might be
a source of significant space.

Also helpful: download and install FolderSize for Windows, which
will let you browse folder trees and see how much space each
folder takes.

Eliminating programs is nibbling at the margins. Programs take up very
little room compared to data.

A better solution is to collect the coins from under your sofa's cushions.
Trade these coins for a terabyte hard drive.
