Hard drive rapidly filling - Vista

I have a new computer with Vista Business. The hd is 105 GB. Every day about
5-10 GB disappears, even though I am not installing any programs, or files,
now I only have about 60 MB's left. I have tried deleting temporary internet
files, emptying the recycle bin. Any suggestions?

Use Disk Cleanup, and don't forget to click on the 'More Options' tab and
clean up System Restore and Shadow Copies..

Or rather, don't. System Restore and Shadow Copies can be incredibly
useful. They should limit to 15% of your total disk space, I believe.

Something to check out
The usage is a bit excessive for Volume Shadow Copy Service / System
Restore,
but it wouldn't hurt to check

My system was set by default to use 15 % of an 80 Gig drive = 11 GB.
I trimmed it back to 5 GB, roughly 6% - the same amount I used in previous
versions

LOL. Know the feeling ... but you can get a boatload of it back if you
delete all but the last System Restore point that you're comfortable with.
"More Options" Tab on the Disk Cleanup screen.

I have this same problem, only my disk is full. I can't find the more options
tab, and have been deleting everything I think that I don't need, which is
going to get me into trouble. "Help" has said to delete old backups, But I
can't find a way to do this. Can someone tell me in easy to understand
language? I really am starting to miss my old computer, Vista was designed to
make people crazy!

I had this problem back when I was using the Beta version of Vista a long
time ago. The cause was related to me upgrading the OS without wiping the
hard drive first. Essentially, the upgrade formatted the drive but did not
change a few settings related to how much space System Restore is allowed to
occupy. By default, system restore should only take about 10% or so of your
drive and delete its own excess beyond that point. Here is what to do:

A short-term fix:

Find and click on "Computer". Then click on your hard drive icon once and
then right-click it and select Properties. Then click on "Disk Cleanup"
near the bottom-right of that window. Then click "Files from all users on
this computer" and continue through the security prompt. Then click on the
"More Options" tab at the top and choose the "Clean up" button under "System
Restore and Shadow Copies" at the bottom. This should free up an enormous
amount of hard disk space because your System Restore has gone crazy.

Permanent fix:

Have someone help you clean-install Vista by deleting all the volume
information on your drive, formatting, and then installing the OS from
scratch.

Check and see what is on the hard drive. Often if you have Google desktop
installed, if you look at C:\Users\Your Vista Profile\AppData\Local\ or put
whatever drive Vista is on in the file path--check to see if you have Google
there. You can safely delete the file and Google desktop will work fine.
It can take up a lot of space.

As to system restore, you can control the amount of space it takes up in
Vista
