Hard drive question

Since this is a hardware group perhaps there will be someone here with
an answer or idea.

I have an 80G WD800 drive that seems to have had the 12 or 5V buss fail
causing the system power supply to fail to come up to power when turned
on. With that drive removed all works well. The question is that since
I have several identical drives, platters, speed, model, etc. will it be
possible, when the media fails on another drive, to take the board from
that drive and swap it with the failed power unit one to get a working
drive again. No software OS, driver type question here just a true
basic hardware question.

Maybe, but you could also finish up with two failed hd's
I did say it would be done after a 2nd drive had a media failure making
its board surplus at that point. It would either work and give me one
good drive out of 2 failed drives or just leave me where I was with two
failed drives. No down side at that time. I started out in physical
hardware design but have no hands on experience with the the newer, to
me, IDE drive board design which is why I asked if anyone had any actual
experience in this area.
