Hard drive problems

Thanks for these forums Microsoft they've helped so much. Anyway my problem
is that I had XP SP2 on a older computer I was running a couple of programs
that would slow it doen to a standstill. So I decided to take the harddrive
out of the computer and put it into one that was running a much faster setup.
(This harddrive will be referred to as "HD1". Maxtor 40Gig 7200RPM the drive
letter was F: originally) The new computer was running XP SP2 also, as a
Master with a slave attached. (This will be referred to as "HD2". Seagate
40gig on my old computer this has a partition the drive letters were C: and
D:) The setup was cable select on all drives. When I connected HD2 to the new
computer it booted fine into the Master which was HD1, it recongized the new
drive and would allow access, that was until I saw at the bottom of the
screen a install tab, (like the ones you get when you connect a USB device)
it said something like "installing new hardware", then said restart to finish
the install, So I did. Well here is where it went downhill FAST. It wouldnt
boot anymore, as long as HD2 was attached. So I disconnected HD2 and it
booted fine, so after I shutdown I reconnected HD2 as the slave just as
before, Now it would boot up, with windows as F:(on HD1) and would see the C:
(HD2) drive, but would not allow access to it, it would say, "Access is
denied, C: is not a valid drive", and my partition wasnt there. So im
agravated, so I do what anyone would do and I disconnected HD1 and put HD2 as
the Master and no slave, (the same setup I had on the old computer). Well it
would continueously reboot and reboot and reboot, going as far as the black
screen, that would be followed by the windows logo, and reboot. Now it says
that NTLDR error and a "Windows System Folder/System32/Hal.Dll could not be
found please reinstall. The problem is that both Windows setup repair and
Recovery console cannot find the installation. So I cant repair it. I cannot
access any infomation on HD2 and I really need some of it. Please help me Im
desperate and need help badly. Thank you Daniel.

PS. Ive tried puting the drive in the old computer and It has the same
problems, also HD1 will boot properly and my computer will see HD2 but wont
boot, this same problem happened with the original slave on the newer
computer, It was running XP SP2 also and has the same problems. But we didnt
need any info off it so it wasnt a problem. The master was the same both
times. Is the Master causing it or is it just a coincidence?
