I have MS XP home on my PC. It has two 60 GB hard drives. Both of the were
working fine. (60 GB ATA 100 units)
I had a 40 GB HD that I wanted to transfer the data. I plugged in the 40 GB
HD into my PC and tried to transfer the data off of the 40 GB. Didn't work!
Plugged in the old 60 GB HD and the problems began.
The second HD is recognized by the PC. I can see it in Hardware / driver
windows. The troubleshooting screens tell me the unit it working fine. The
serial number is correct. Everything looks fine, just cannot get into the
files??? This also happens on a second desktop.
Drivers look OK. Updating does not help.
Suggestions? Thanks

After making sure the jumper settings are correct....

Try assigning the missing drive a letter. Start, rt click My Computer,
Manage, Storage, Disk Management.

It might be a good idea to uninstall the drive in Device Manager (or any
other device) prior to physically removing it from your case.
