Hard drive mounting

This may not be the appropriate place to ask but I couldn't think of a
better newsgroup at the moment.

I just bought an external hard drive which comes with a stand designed to
hold the drive on its side (ie: spinning on a horizontal axis rather than
lying flat). Is this a good (or even acceptable) idea?

It's fine. The hard drive doesn't care what position it's in. I have
mine on its side as it takes up less room that way.

With today's drives, as long as you don't interfere or obstruct cooling,
drive orientation is immaterial.
