What is the best way to migrate all files, folders, and
applications from one hard drive to another. I simply
want to transfer everything on an 80gb drive to a new
160gb drive WITHOUT having to reinstall all applications
and programs. I plan to install the Win XP operating
system. This PC is double-booted...Win 2000 on drive D
and Win XP Pro (with SP2) on Drive C. Can I back up Drive
C to Drive D, install new drive as C, install Win XP on
new C drive, then "restore backup" from D to C??????

The new drive, if bought retail, will come with a cd utility to do just
what you want. Slave in the new drive in the computer with the old
drive still as master. Boot with the drive utility and follow the
wizard. It will copy everything on the old drive to the new drive. Then
you will take the old drive out and replace it with the new drive,
setting the new drive as master. If you want to keep the old drive for
data, then put it in as slave and format it.

If you didn't buy your new hard drive retail, you can download the
utility from the drive mftr.'s website.
