I have a 80GB hard drive on a machine running XP Pro! I currently have
around 60GB full but there is a funny problem here. After starting the PC
and running for 3-4 hours I get a message saying "your hard drive is
full...."! I'd have to restart the PC to reclaim the missing 20 GB or so! I
mainly do word processing, excel, email and web on it. It's been going on
for few days and I have no clue what to do.!

Any comments, help or solution is greatly appreciated! thanks.

I believe you are referring to KB # 307729; HOW TO: Disable Notification Area Balloon Tips in Windows XP! Thanks but this is not the problem! The notification is actually doing its job, it is telling me that I have no space left on the HD. I'd rather fix the original problem which is why I keep losing 20GB every few hours and I have to restart my PC to get it back. I am sorry I did not explain myself further before. But I really lose the 20GB and Hard drive shows that it is full, 80GB! Looking in there and adding everything up show only 60 GB used but it is reported by the operating system as 80GB and I get it corrected once I restart Windows!

I hope that we are on the same page now and hope that you or someone else may be able to help. Thanks.

Are you using a Tiger Woods golf game?

Are you using any programs that keep several backups, like Photoshop?

Have you scanned for viruses?

Are you using any programs that use very large files and do you use the NTFS filing system?

Try limiting the amount of space available for your Restore Points. Also
make sure you run all you spyware/virus scans in Safe Mode. Use Disk
Cleanup as often as necessary. I set mine to auto run once a week.
