Hard Drive Failure HELP

B

Blake

I have an IBM X40 and it appears the hard drive has some major errors.
I can boot part of the way, get the select boot method because Windows
did not start properly.
Select Safe Mode
BUT windows stops with the following blue screen error.

A problem has been detected.... UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

When I boot from the Windows XP disk to repair, I can not even do a DIR
command.

I have been looking on for a Disk Recovery tool that might be of use.
Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thank you

System Configuration
IBM Thinkpad X40
Hard drive is Hitachi DK13FA

How important is the data on the drive ? If you'll slash your wrists
if you dont get it back, you'd be best to use pro recovery now.

It aint cheap tho.

If the data isnt that important, best to replace the drive.
