Hard drive crash with no recovery disk

My HD suffered a mechanical failure and I cannot find the system recovery
disk (*&!). The PC had a manufacturer-installed Home edition of XP
(registration number is on the case) and I paid for the Pro upgrade (for
which I have the disks). I'm going to replace the HD and load everything
from scratch, but I don't have XP home disks. The system recovery disk for
my pc (HP pavilion 7955) is nowhere to be found on the web (or at HP)(*&!).
What are my best (least expensive) options for getting and loading an
authentic version of XP home on this new HD?
Thanks!

Call H-P support on the phone, explain the issue, and ask them to send you a
replacement recovery disc.

I think HP will send you a recovery disk for $20.

Thanks to those who suggested I call HP. I did, but the PC is old enough
(2001)that they no longer stock the recovery disk. They pointed me to third
party resources on the web (for example restoredisks.com), but I have been
unable to find the recovery disk that way, either. -

ok, well this is the
first i've heard of this posting.

the next best thing is to
1) buy yourself a copy of windows xp
and
2) create emergency boot up cd or floppies
off another pc.

the 2 tools above will help
you get into an unfunctional pc
if it should ever occur.

Tom you state "...I paid for the Pro upgrade (for
which I have the disks)...". If you have the XP Pro CD - boot from the CD
(set boot order via BIOS if necessary) - do not select upgrade option for
clean install. If for some reason setup does not continue and you receive a
message regarding no previous version of Windows or boot from Windows only-
haul out an old 98 or ME CD.
