Hard disks not found

Hello,
PC AMD 64 Dual Core Win 2K Prof. O/S Multiple Drives

On Startup system would not boot beyond Splash Screen

then after a few attempts system does not go beyond POST after
recognizing EIDE Hard drives, (even with O/S CD in Drive {correct disk
boot priority})

Disconnected all drives except the C Drive

Attempt to reinstall or repair O/S =>
Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer ...
Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3.

What is causing this problem and how can I correct it (short of using
mbrfx as I do not wish to lose data on the drive.

Thanks!

Signs of some type of hardware failure, power supply, mobo, can't be
certain. Can you boot from CD using a Knoppix Live CD and access the
HDs? Alternatively, use an Ultimate Boot CD to try and run
diagnostics on the HDs. Google for these items, you'll need a working
system to burn ISO images for Knoppix or UBCD.

Another thought is to remove all add-in cards except vid card,
disconnect all USB devices and try again. Could be some BIOS setting
that is not proper/correct, resetting BIOS to defaults might help.

How do you have the drives configured on the cable?
I'v found that Windows Install just doesn't *like* anything except
cable-select, with the desired C: drive at the end of the cable.

(And leave off *any* other drives except the CD, if you don't want
Windows mucking them up during the install.)

So, while setting up, jumper (or on many *remove* jumpers) so that the
main installation-drive is at the end of the cable in the MASTER
position, and the CD is in the middle as SLAVE.

Make sure you use *good* IDE cables too.

Once installed, you can then manually set Master and Slave yourself; but
make sure the Master is always on the END of the cable.

Don't ruel out the obvious. Is the c: drive spinning? Have you
plugged it up to another computer to see if its recognized there? My
guess is that your c: drive has outlived its usefulness.
