Have you looked at my suggestions for an alternative way to proceed
without changing partitions sizes?

Yes, and they're good ideas, but I've done most of it already, at install.
Most of what's in my C:\ is limited to o/s stuff. My applications are on a
differnet hd. From the time I installed unitil now, the o/s is taking almost
double its original space.

I need gigs of additional C:\ space, else I'm just postponing the problem.

Thanks

How large is your C partition and how much free space?

Try Disk CleanUp and the System
Restore option in the More Options tab of Disk CleanUp.

If you need more you could reduce the amount of space allocated to
system restore from 12% to 10% or even 8%. Right click My Computer,
select Properties, System Restore tab, place cursor on drive and click
on Settings.

Delete the Update folders and logs from \Windows.

If you still want to resize, get Acronis Disk Director:

My partition is 5.61 gb using 4.11 gb but it is Home Edition with the
page file on a second drive.

Someone else has suggested deleting the uninstall Windows updates in the
Windows folders, which can be done if you accept you will not be able to
uninstall an update which is causing problems. Users do uninstall
updates but I have never seen the need to do so. However, there is an
intermediate stage, which may give you the necessary extra disk space.

I have noticed on my system that some of these Uninstall folders in the
Windows folder are compressed and some are not. If you compress you will
gain significant disk space. To do this place cursor on each Uninstall
Folder, right click, select Properties, Advanced, check box before
"Compress contents to save disk space" and click on Apply and OK.

You should complete the operation by running Disk Defragmenter.

Also I have reduced the allocation to System Restore to 6% on a
similarly sized partition.
