Hangups in Windows Explorer

I have been having several problems with windows. When I attempt to drag an
icon on my desktop to the recycle bin the drag application hangs and locks my
PC; if I right click on an icon, or on my computer to check properties, the
computer hangs. If I go into task manager to end the app I find that some of
the programs on my task bar are no longer there.

Is there any kind of fix for these problems (if they aren't all part of the
same problem) short of a complete reformatting?

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers
