Hang at 33 Minutes at Installing Devices on XP SP2 Install

Please help! I was infected with some strange Adware/virus the took out my
Norton Firewall and Anti-virus (kept turning off or crashing after
infection), so I uninstalled and installed McAfee. Then fonud that every time
that opened a save-as, look-in window, it took forever. As it turns out,
although the Microsoft indexing service was running, for some reason, it
would not save the index of my drives, so every time, it had to re-read all
of my available drives! Too slow. I used MSCONFIG and couldn't track down
which was interfering with indexing, so I went to reinstall XP SP2. Problem
is: every time, it hangs at 33 minutes during Installing Devices, even after
reboot. Can anyone give me an easy step-by-step as far as what to do to find
out what device/device is hanging it up? Also, my C: drive is a SATA drive
(where XP lives) and I did not install drives via F6 during the install, but
it didn't seem to have any problems using that drive without the drivers
installed. Thanks for any help. I think I have a LONG WEEKEND ahead of me...

Steve, thanks for the guidance. As it turns out, it appears the problem was
that although Windows was seeing the SATA drive, without the F6 at setup
startup to install the driver, it got hung up there.

Thanks again! Jay
