Hands on a Clock

R

Rick Altman

I was hopeful of creating a tutorial for not-so-basic animation, using
motion around a clock as the example. Unfortunately, I can't find a way to
achieve the effect. If there were a rotation choice for emphasis or for one
of the motion paths, I'd have a shot, and unfortunately, Spin does not allow
you to set the pivot point anywhere other than the middle of the object.

Has anyone attempted this and had more success than I appear to be having?

To make the shape pivot across an edge:
Create a shape with no file and line with the same dimensions as the
original shape.
Align it end to end and group it.
Then apply the spin animation.
The Shape will spin with the join of the two shapes as the center, giving
the impression that the shape is pivoting across the edge.

Fantastic! Terrific workaround, Shyam. Wish I had thought of it myself...

Rick,

Dang. This was demonstrated at PowerPoint Live. I think it was John Langhans
in the help centre. Where were you?

[CRITICAL UPDATE - Anyone using Office 2003 should install the critical
update as soon as possible. From PowerPoint, choose "Help -> Check for

Hello,

If you (or anyone else reading this message) feel strongly that PowerPoint
should have a specific animation effect or effect option <such as being
able to specify pivot point for rotation effects>, or be able to create a
specific effect by combining others (of course, without having to resort to
VBA or add-ins), don't forget to send your feedback (in YOUR OWN WORDS,
please) to Microsoft at:

http://register.microsoft.com/mswish/suggestion.asp

As with all product suggestions, it's important that you not just state
your wish but also WHY it is important to you that your product suggestion
be implemented by Microsoft. Microsoft receives thousands of product
suggestions every day and we read each one but, in any given product
development cycle, there are only sufficient resources to address the ones
that are most important to our customers so take the extra time to state
your case as clearly and completely as possible.

IMPORTANT: Each submission should be a single suggestion (not a list of
suggestions).
