I have had the same problem in the past. Which system do you have? Is it new
cd-r media
you're using?

Test using CD RW's till you get it fixed. Restore to a time it worked.

What is the error message? You're using WMP to burn CDs, right? Have a
look around for the burning software which came with your CD burner- it's
probably either Nero or EasyCD Creator. Both do a much better job of
burning CDs than WMP does. I use the retail version of Nero to burn audio
and data CDs, and have very rarely produced a coaster as a result. Even the
freeware version of MusicMatch Jukebox is infinitely less problematic and
more reliable than WMP when it comes to burning CDs.

Ian is correct, Xp burning software is naff. If you'rde using a third party
software, you need to turn off the Xp software as you could develop a
conflict.

Start > Manage > Servies and Appliances > Services > Disable IMAPI CD
Burning ROM > Apply > OK W reboot and burn away.

Jerry
