Dave

I recently had a hacker get into my system somehow and
made it impossible to get onto my designated "homepage".
No matter what I tried, I always ended up with another
homepage. After some research, I found that all the
popular homepage "search engines" had their web address'
altered in my "host" file. After deleteing them, I was
able to restore my computer back to my choosen homepage.
Is there any way to stop this malicious behavior by
hackers from happening again?

The first step would be to determine the method the
hackers used to compromise your system in the first place.

As a general guideline, use automatic update, install all
recommended patches, use a firewall, require password
authentication, disable unused accounts, turn off unused
services, limit the number of admin accounts on the
system, etc.

FWIW, you might also want to post this message on the
security forum. There are plenty of people there that are
willing to offer their $0.02 worth.

Does that help? If you have specific questions, let us
know.

Best of luck!

how can I get to this forum?
