Doesn't sound like an XP problem to me. You probably
ought to dispute the charge with your credit card company
and see if they can press charges if you never signed up
for anything with a credit card.

Installing spyware is a good thing. I suggest using both
ad-aware and spybot both downloadable from pcworld.com.
Also, never enter your credit card number at an insecure
site (you need the golden lock at the bottom of the
browser). And don't order stuff from unreputable
companies.
