I have a few old BASIC programs which work excellently on Windows XP.

However, when I installed SP2 they refuse to work. Anybody knows a simple fix?

this may help. quoted from http://www.ChicagoTech.net
XP SP2 enables firewall by default

To help protect XP computer against viruses or security threats, XP SP2
enables firewall by default. If you experience some issues after installing
XP SP2, you may want to adjust firewall settings.

Kurt,

what exactly happens when you try to start one?

SP2 introduces some new levels of protection against unwanted
programs running on your computer. Perhaps the cause is
connected to that.

FWIW, I have QBasic -- from the darkest days of DOS v5.0 -- running
on my XP SP2 PC. It runs under XP SP2 as well as it ever did under
DOS v5.0.
