Guide gone?

I am trying to place objects in a presentation using
guides and there is no vertical guide available. There is
a horizontal guide showing - but I can't find a vertical
one. Is there a way to get a guide where none seems to
exist?

I do not know if this correct for all versions of PowerPoint, but look to
see if the vertical guide has been inadvertently dragged to the edge of the
slide.

Thanks for the suggestion but this guide is just not there

did you change the slide size? Try to enlarge your slide size ("File - Page
Setup") and see whether you find your guide then. If so, drag it to the
center and resize your slide to its original size.

The missing guide was sitting 5 inches to the left of the
edge of the page. Appreciate your tip!
