I have always used a commercial guestbook on pages I have made but am really
tired of the ads so decided to try the Guestbook Feature in FP 2002. I made
the form and uploaded it but how do I get it to work? FWIW, I am using FP as
an html editor and not uploading to my host using FP extensions. I don't
know if that affects it or not?

I know I have missed a step or several steps.

When I put in some text on the actual guestbook after uploading it, this is
the message that was returned to me:

The requested URL /--WEBBOT-SELF-- was not found on this server.

Thanks in advance, y'all!

Mary

The Guestbook must be published (using HTML - *not FTP) to a server running
FrontPage Extensions.

The Melville book does look nice but when I viewed the source it said,
"KISGB is a robust, easy to use, and fully customizable PHP Guest Book!"

Don't know if this will help, but, I was having a similar problem with my
guestbook. After I solved it, I posted this note to the newsgroup.

---------------------

I was having a problem with my Guestbook. When I entered comments on the
Guestbook (guestbk.htm) and hit the "Submit" button, I got the following
error in the browser:
-- "Cannot open the page"
-- and, the URL in the broswer displayed
http://www.myweb.com/_derived/nortbots.htm

I finally found out how to fix it:
-- Open the guestbook file on both the HD and on the live web. In my case,
the file is guestbk.htm.
-- Go to HTML view and look for the following HTML:
onSubmit="location.href='_derived/nortbots.htm';return false;"
-- I found this line of code on both the HD and the remote web -- removed it
and the guestbook works.

Don't ask me how it got there or what it means, but, there it is.

Ron,
My server does allow FP extensions. Could you give me a little info on how
to do this not using FTP?

Thanks!

Mary

This site is best viewed............
........................with a computer

except to publish through frontpage with http:// the server needs the frontpage
extensions running!

I'm sure there are third party products that don't have ads, surely? or ones that
require at minimal a link to the author's site and that's it....not distracting
banner adverts
