Guest Book enhancement?

S

Susan

I finally gave up and deleted the Guest Book from a web site I maintain for
a local art center due to numerous links being posted for sex, dating,
gambling, prescription drugs, etc. I guess there is nothing that I can do
based on information that I have read on other posts.

Do you thing that Microsoft might make an enhancement on the future release
of FrontPage to help with this problem?

One suggestion that has been made is to rename the guest book file names.

You might want to consider switching over to a simple
form that "guest" may fill out. The data could come back
to your email address, you could then decide which ones
you wanted to manually post to the site. A bit more work
on your part but it should solve your problem.

You may want to switch to using a portal or forum software that is designed for discussions and will allow you to moderate what is posted. You can have it private so unauth users can't post..blah blah blah.

Then you just link it to your FP web (best to put it in a subweb).

Which portal/forum you can use will depend on what kinda of server you're on...*nix/php/mysql or windows/asp/access/mssql.

Some are even free.

Susan, Rick etc...

When I first wanted to do the guestbook the host did not
have the FPSEs set up properly so I developed it using a
form for input and a DRW for reading the guestbook. I too
started getting GBspam a couple of months ago, so I
redeveloped the GB.

Current Process:
Form to collect information. Sends to ASP page
ASP page. Retrieves the values and creates an HTML email
sent to me.
HTML Email- contains a form prefilled out with the
original posters information.
Options Available- You can edit the entry, submit as
is, or just delete the email
"Submit" button posts to another ASP page
ASP-2 page. Posts the information into Access DB and
then redirects to the guestbook

As the servers I work with are NT4 or 2000, the email is
created using CDO-NTS. It could easily be ported to CDO-SYS
for 2000, XP, or 2003 servers. I will share and help with it
if you would like. I will be on vacation this weekend so it
probably wouldn't be until next week
