If guest user is disabled only the aministrator can login. Small office with
5 computers. Use XP Pro as a file server. Starting this morning if the guest
user is disabled only the administrator. I order to get workstations to be
able to login had to enable gusest user.

What is causing this.

Thank you for any help.

Do you mean the accounts on the 'server' or those on the workstations?

By 'logon' do you mean access their own computers, or connect to the server?

If the latter, then having guest enabled means that the server doesn't care
what username is supplied, the only requirement s for the user to supply the
guest account's password (assuming there is one)

Thus, turning off the guest account means that users must authenticate to
the server with a 'real' accountname and password. If there is no such
account on the server, they don't get in.

Are you talking about logging in locally? Or accessing shares thru the network?

If the problem is accessing thru the network, you need to disable Simple File
Sharing, and make sure that the non-Guest accounts are properly activated on
each computer.

Each user has a user account with a login name and password on the XP Pro
computer being used as a file server. The workstations have a user account
created that is the same name and same password. When the guest user on the
computer used as a file server is disabled only the administrator can login.
All other user names fail at login.

workstations login with their login name and password not as a guest. The
login was working correctly (3 weeks) until this morning.
