Guest Access only on LAN peer to peer

Good morning,
I recently ran into an issue on a peer to peer network that would not let me
connect to other machines on the same workgroup. All machines could see each
other just fine, however; when attempting to connect to another machine, it
would display the appropriate log in screen, but with the Guest profile
account selected and grayed out (no other option to put in a seperate profile
was available) and only the password field was available. Currently, I have
the Guest accounts on all of these machines disabled for security reasons.
These are all Windows XP Professional machines, newer Dell hardware, I have
disabled all Firewall software (Norton Internet Security and Windows
Firewall) because it sits behind a configurable Linksys router. As for the
router, there are no obvious settings that seem to prohibit functionality.

I am trying to simply share a folder on one machine with a couple of other
machines. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

In Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options, View. Scroll down and
uncheck Use simple file sharing on the machines you want to access shared
folders. Note: You will need to know a valid username/password that has
access to the files/folders you want to access remotely.
