I only get the expected results in both NT4.0 and Win2000;
no error message.

I also get expected results. If you rename 1.log to a.log (or some other
all alpha name), does it change at all? It ~shouldn't~ matter though. If
that doesn't make a difference, reinstall your operating system. ;]
