group policy settings for XP and time sync

S

stevew

anyone know exactly how to configure the GP settings on a
windows 2000 server using group policy xp . adm file for
time sync. I found computer config>admin
template>system>windows time service>time providers
I am trying to sync time with network DC. Not sure of the
settings needed or if any user permissions are required.
Please help.

Steve,

You do not need to configure any special time service settings in order
for the clients to sync with DCs on your network. If you are using a third
party time service then you would want to set these settings but based on
your description you want to sync with a DC. The w32time service does this
by default. Take a look at the following document on w32time.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/techinfo/howitworks/security/wintimeserv.asp

If the settings for time are not appearing when you try to edit the
policy you can install the admin tools on an XP client and configure the
policy from that pc using AD users and computers.
