Group Policy processing error message

Alan McBride

We are receiving the following error in the Application
Event Log on each of our workstations. Event ID: 1054
Source: Userenv The problem began after our domain OU
was moved to a new Site in AD.
Error Message:
Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your
computer network. (An unexpected network error
occurred. ). Group Policy processing aborted.

All other networking functions (WINS,DNS,Mail, etc.)
appear to be healthy and working fine.

The fact that the error states that it can't find a DC indicates that you
may have a name resolution issue. Take a look at "298656 Event ID 1054 Is
Logged in the Application Event Log http://support.microsoft.com/?id=298656"

Thanks Tim but our DHCP server is handing down the correct info and all other browsing is working correctly ( i.e., finding www.microsoft.com) Are there any other articles you could suggest we look at? Thanks again, Alan

Is the server receiving any other errors? CHeck the system event log. Can
you explain what you meant by " The problem began after our domain OU
was moved to a new Site in AD." You may want to try forcing kerberos over
tcp as mentioned in
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;244474&Product=win2000 .
If that does not help then change the setting back to its default.
