Group Policy and Favorites

Frisk

Hello,

I have a strange little problem and i wondered if anyone could help me.

I run a pretty large network and all runs well except sometimes,
favorites inserted by the group policies dont update on client
machines.

The policy is configured like this

Default Policy
|
|
----------------------
| | |
sales mgmt tech

Within the default policy, i've set it to include certain base
favorites in IE that everybody gets(e.g. our company websites, useful
tools ect)

And then within the inner policies (depending on which group you are a
member of) i've created custom favorites specific for those groups.

90% of my win 2000 workstation clients that connect get the favorites
they are supposed to, some however either get part of a favorites
folder (with some missing) or miss a favorite folder altogether.
Sometimes when they reboot they get them back, sometimes they don't.

Also if i update the url of a favourite (leaving the name intact) some
machines respond to the updated url right away, others (including my
own) keep the old url even though i know my policy has been refreshed.

Any ideas why this is happening?

I would appreciate any possible insight.

Thankyou

Have you already tried applying the policy
"CompConf\AdmTemp\System\System\Group Policy\Internet Explorer
Maintenance policy processing" and there: "Process even if the Group
Policy objects have not changed" ?

cheers,

Hi Florian...

This did work but now sometimes when clients boot up, there homepage is
not the one i set, but msn... then if they reboot, it comes back!

I set Process even if the Group Policy objects have not changed and
Proces Group Policy even on a Slow Connection.

Howdy Frisk!

Is there an application that might set the default homepage back to msn?
Does this behaviour only show up on Windows 2000 clients or Windows
XP clients? I think you have Windows XP fast boot enabled so group
policy will not (always) be processed on startup and the msn-start page
remains active:
"Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon" at
"CompConf\Adm Vorl\System\Logon"
I set Process even if the Group Policy objects have not changed and
Proces Group Policy even on a Slow Connection.

That's okay.

If this all doesn't help you, you maybe need to find the application
that writes the default page back to msn.

cheers,

Florian
