Gridlines not printing?!

Seems like a simple issue ... but I'm not getting anywhere.

I have a printed form (print area on a worksheet) that I need to print
out maybe 2 or 3 times a year. Today, for some reason the gridlines are
not behaving - as far as I know, nothing has changed ... but it seems
obvious that *something* has changed since the last time.

I've changed every setting that I can think of, but without success.
I've completely shut down and re-booted ... no joy.
I created a new workbook -- gridlines print as expected.

Any suggestions for me to try?

I don't run 2010 but earlier versions had an option in Print Settings to not
print gridlines.

In 2007 it would be found under Page Setup>Sheet

It is saved with the workbook.

I forgot to mention that I tried this on two different printers - two
completely different print drivers.

Also, I just tried a Save As PDF, and the gridlines came out just fine.
That gave me the printed form I needed ... but I'm still mystified.

Same dialog box I was used to in xl2003 is still available ... I've
tried that both ways but gridlines are not printing. It seems there
must be something else interfering, but I'm at a loss to know what else
to try.

I did recently do some major cleanup on conditional formatting in this
particular worksheet. Over time my conditional formatting ranges had
become dis-jointed to the point where instead of having 14 conditions I
had several thousand. I ended up selecting the entire active data range
except for one row and "deleting all conditions in selection", then
using VBA to modify the range of each condition in the worksheet's
conditions collection. Several macros I use daily that had become quite
sluggish speeded up dramatically after that! <g>

Whether that could have any bearing on my current issue or not I haven't
the experience to have any idea.
