greyed out windows xp

"Greyed out" where? When?

What file type? All of them? Or just particular ones? Is this a file you
downloaded off the 'net?

if I open my mail folder in my profiles and double
let click it I get an open with menu that the tick
mark is greyed out.
 
Ok, so what mail do you use? What folder are you referring to?

You need to supply a decent description of the problem and what it is you
are trying to achieve if you want a response that is useful. So far all you
are giving is bits and pieces that are insufficient to give you any help.
