Grey lines on desktop

Grey lines have appeared on my desktop where there is
text or the edge of a box. It's not the monitor as i
checked with another. Iv'e run virus scans with norton
and checked the system with sisandra and no problems with
video card show. Also updated display driver & tried
older vertions.

System spec:

1Gh AMD Athlon
256 Mb SDRAM
Gigabyte motherboard
Nvidia G-Force 256
AOC Monitor (set at 1024 x 768)

Place your speakers further away from the monitor?

Speaker's disconnected now and as far away as poss..and
iv'e rebooted and the lines are still there. I did have a
base speaker on the floor, 2-3 ft below the moniter and 1
4" satellite right next to it.

If it were the speakers, removing them won't necessarily get rid of the
lines. Have you degaussed your monitor? That's supposed to get rid of
magnetic fields in the monitor's mask, but I've ruined a monitor with
unsuitable speakers beyond what degaussing could repair.
