NeverExpires.com - Our Definition of Free Software!

Freeware, Shareware and Demos that never stop running.
does NOT expires in # of days (ie. expires in 30 days).
does NOT expires after # of executions (ie. expires after 20 runs).
does NOT have a drop dead date (stops running after a certain date).

We are picky, so you don't have to be...

FREEWARE submissions are scrutinized to ensure that they really are
Freeware.

SHAREWARE submissions are accepted if the author offers a Lite Versions of
their full-featured version of the registered Shareware program. However,
the Lite Version must be useful enough to perform the primary function for
which it was created.

GAME DEMOS submissions are accepted if you can enjoy the game with the
limited number of levels available. We attempt to find out how much of each
Game Demo is playable and pass that information on to you.

ADWARE submissions identified as "Supported by Advertising" are accepted.
We just want to be able to pass that information on to you. Adware is a
great concept. If you are concerned, contact the author to find out what
Advertising Program they are using to provide income for their work. Once
you have identified the Advertising Program, you can then do some research.
Please read both positive and negative articles on Advertising Programs
before you make a decision to download the software.

works for me too but the problem is the first 5 I tried did expire unless
I paid for them - all shareware or demos from what I saw

I tried Whist - it nags and makes you wait 9 seconds before you start

There is also something wrong, IMO, about "defining" freeware which
includes shareware you can use because it does not expire and does not
nag - the author has written it, and lets you try it -but is still
trying to sell it to you - different to freeware which says you can
use this as long as you like....

The very first item I attempted to download was Zigzag Cleaner and after
following the links to get to the download page, I finally ended up at the
home site:

Version 1.18

* Date: Feb. 08, 2004
* File size: 332kb
* Price:
$15

doesn't appear to be free anymore :-(

**** adware. I've made my decision. I don't do it.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I think some programs are too useful to
miss out on because of adware that is very easy to detect and remove.
Burn4Free comes to mind. Install, de-louse, enjoy. Isn't that really like
revenge? It's almost like sticking a finger in the eye of the Spy/Ad/Crap
ware authors.

I don't have a problem with adware as long as it's not overly in my face and
doesn't spew porn. To give you an example, Argosoft has a fairly workable
freeware version of their email server except that the web interface spits
out ads. You never know where those ads are coming from. Rather than use
Argo's web interface I use that web interface that I can never remember how
to spell...the "Webby Meow" one.

A long time ago, I'd written a program that worked with my Juno email that
replaced all their ads with graphics from my scenery CDs.

Ooops, sorry. That's a real URL :-(

I couldn't resist the temptation to have a look at
www.pagecannotbedisplayed.com and found under the Internet heading a
sub-category "Pop-up Blockers" which leads to a page which includes at least
two freeware programs. There may be other Internet links worth a look.

Free Popup Stopper
Get a free popup stopper and remove all spyware.
www.enigma-popup-stop.com

Free Popup Blocker
Kill Popups Before They Appear. 100% Free Popup Filtering Program.

I haven't tried these yet -- any volunteers?

Har... you used the sour lemons to make lemonade. :)

Spyware and Adware are not bad. What they do is bad and annoying. If a
program is riddled with junk and you can disarm it and have a good program,
why not? Just be sure to warn others about it when recommending it.

Good point Bob. But I'd only do such a thing if the EULA didn't have
provisions against it. It's easier for me to simply ignore all adware
rather than installing it and risking alterations to my system that I
can't undo (well, I can undo anything, but some newbies can't.)

Bob, that's like saying that a child molester is not bad, just what he

Woa! Big difference! A child molester is a *person. People can be evil.
Software, hardware, and other inanimate objects can not be evil. You can not
separate an evil act from the person, but you can separate spyware from
software. Or something like that. ;)

It makes good sense to reject the products of an evil person. I think that's
where you are coming from, right? If you say the purveyors of spyware are
evil, then many would reject their software regardless of whether it could
be cleaned up. That's a good thing. It's standing strong behind ones
principles.

As for me, I think it's good payback to an evil author to remove the
spyware and use their otherwise perfectly good software.

*If* you can. However, I've yet to need an adware program badly enough
to go through the hassle.

This looks like a lot of fun. And it appears that there are lots of
other such pranks from the same people:

Personally, I don't mind addware as long as:
1) it keeps of porn/enlargement adds
2) it isn't anoying and/or blinking
3) The software is better than any freeware app.
4) does use less then 10% of the application window

Well, of course making a personal decision to use it and recommending
it in this group are two entirely different things. I certainly hope
this group doesn't start becoming cluttered (worse than it is) with
adware and spyware recommendations.

Well, I agree with the cluttered part. Keep it 'clean' freeware if possible
at all,
I'd say (those conditions I mentioned are AND conditions) But for the rare
adware only utilities you might make an exception, IMHO.
