Graphics Problem

Hi,
I have a graphics problem on my laptop that has frustrated for weeks.
My system - Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo D1840/3ghz/512mb/80gb/128mb Radeon
Mobilty/WinXP SP2.
Problem - graphics hang/freeze/very low frame rate while playing games which
previously worked on max resolution and settings.
Solutions tried - drivers checked, defrag HD, defrag memory, full system
clean with System Mechanic, full Windows reinstall, full reformat of HD,
checked for other device/software conflicts, dxdiag shows no problems, all
devices said to be working properly, computer is not overheating or crashing.
The laptop has also been to Fujitsu-Siemens repair centre and after having
faulty motherboard replaced, their diagnostics, plus check with PC Doctor,
says all devices are working properly.
But - the problem persists. Any help with this would be VERY appreciated.
Thanks,
Maurice.

One extra question - is XP SP2 known to cause graphical problems.

Hi Maurice,

Did these problems start after the motherboard was replaced?
It's more likely to be the motherboard not SP2. I personally
use SP 2 and do not experience lag even with my Ti4200.

Most of these "lag" problems can be handled by:

1) Closing most of all "autostarted" applications.
2) Updating video card drivers, including chipset drivers
3) Installing the latest available patch for the games

Also, most game publishers do not "support" their games when installed on
laptops. Laptops components are not easily upgradable as any regular PC.

Hi Jimmy,
The problem was there before the motherboard was replaced, and it has not
been addressed by the repair. They are checking the unit again for me but I
am pretty sure it is not a software conflict. Thanks for any reply!
Maurice.

Thanks for your replie Yves, it is much appreciated.
I have however tried all the suggestions below, the problem persists even
after a complete reformat, driver update and latest patch install.
Regards,
Maurice
