Graphics Disapeering

J

JCO

I'm using Frontpage 2003. Several items "Graphics" seems to be disapear at
random times. Sometimes they show up sometimes they don't. I can fix one,
then the other disapears. All graphics are located in the proper folder.
I've even deleted the folder on the server (that has the graphics) and
re-published them.

What else can cause this? Some of these are graphics of words that says
"Read More" which has a checkmark in front of it. Once converted into a jpg
or .gif, I want to use them in several locations with different links.

Can you put a jpg in a file then use it at several location with different
links?

Thanks

Hi ,

Thank you for posting here!

Actually you can use jpg file for multiple links or locations in the web. I
suggest you check the following settings to perform a test.

1.Check the permission for the folder, make sure the user has the read
permission on the folder.
2.If you use the IIS, please use the Anonymous access for the virtual
folder.
3.Right click your web, and select View Source, please check if the jpg
file path is correct.
4. Does this issue occur on all client machines, or only one client machine?

If you receive any error, please send a screenshot to me.

Create a screenshot
=================
a) When the message appears in the window, press PrScrn (the key right of
F12).
b) Click start menu->all programs->accessories->paint.
c) Press Ctrl+V to paste the screen shot into the paint, and save the
picture in

Thanks & Regards,

How can you tell if something is missing. Whe I view, I don't see the jpg
files listed below which should show up as thumbnails on the index page:
**********
home/060412_MartinHighSchoolPlayer/MartinHighSchoolPlayers.jpg
home/060412_90GirlsBlack/Tejanos90_tulsa_small.jpg
**********
I noticed that the path is not full. I don't know why. Is this a setting
on FP to make the path of files complete or with respects to an existing
path?

The images you referenced are not the Thumbnails (which are in the page).
They are the images that the Thumbnails point to. If you click on the
Thumbnail, you will see the image you're talking about.

Are you running any Norton/Symantec products on the offending PC? These
often remove all references to thumbnails from pages "to protect you". The
removal is based on image/path name and/or image size - if it could be an
advert or banner, it is removed. MacAfee and ZoneAlarm have similar
features.

Both machines are running Symantec products (NSW 2005).
But my work computer was able to see everything fine until I reinstall the

Try disabling NSW - particularly the anti-virus and Internet Security,
which are notorious for the problem you are seeing.
The last ZoneAlarm product I used had to be uninstalled to stop it
working - disabling did not stop one of the functions.

For ZA, I'm still running 4.5 which is quite old, but I think the best
version to run. So I keep it (only). It is not ZA. I'm still looking into
NSW.

I posted the issue with IE newsgroup too.

But my work computer was able to see everything fine until I reinstall
the
OS and all products. Since then, I've been having this issue... I think.

Are you running any Norton/Symantec products on the offending PC?
These
often remove all references to thumbnails from pages "to protect you". The
removal is based on image/path name and/or image size - if it could be
an
advert or banner, it is removed. MacAfee and ZoneAlarm have similar
features.

I understand.
My point is that I can't see those thumbnails with my computers.
However,
when I use my other computer, I can see them fine. There seems to be
an
issue with one of my computers then.
What can that be?

The images you referenced are not the Thumbnails (which are in the
page).
They are the images that the Thumbnails point to. If you click on the
Thumbnail, you will see the image you're talking about.

The man who questions opinions is wise.
The man who quarrels with facts is a fool.

How can you tell if something is missing. Whe I view, I don't see the
jpg
files listed below which should show up as thumbnails on the index
page:
**********
home/060412_MartinHighSchoolPlayer/MartinHighSchoolPlayers.jpg
home/060412_90GirlsBlack/Tejanos90_tulsa_small.jpg
**********
I noticed that the path is not full. I don't know why. Is this a
setting
on FP to make the path of files complete or with respects to an
existing
path?

I didn't either. But, they sure loaded slow, even on a t-1.

I suggest you perform test in the Windows clean mode to check if this issue
is related to these third part program. If so, I think you need to disable
them one by one at the startup to check which one cause this issue. Thank
you! Detailed steps are listed below:

Starting Windows in Clean mode (For Windows XP)
==========================
1. Click Run in the Start Menu.

2. Type "msconfig.exe" (without the quotation) to start System
Configuration Utility.

3. Click Startup tab, and Click Disable All to uncheck all of the Startup
Item. (The items can be recovered by clicking Enable All.)

4. Click Service tab, check the Hide All Microsoft Services check box, and
click Disable All.

5. Click Apply and click close, and reboot your compute.

6. Test the issue again.

Thank you!

Sincerely,
Warner Wang

Thanks for your input.
The Clean Mode did not work. I have the same issues.
However, I'm running Windows 2000; Not XP

I think I found the problem but don't know how to fix it permanently.
In FP2003, when I double click the thumbnail, it shows the link to be at:
"home/060412_MartinHighSchoolPlayer/MartinHighSchoolPlayers.html"
I change it to this:
http://dfwtejanos.com/home/060412_MartinHighSchoolPlayer/MartinHighSchoolPlayers.html"

The queston is why isn't this automatic?
When I drag a thumbnail photo and create a hyperlink from it... it does not
get created with the FULL PATH of the website. Instead it gets the Relative
path (if that makes sense).

It's automatic when it's relative, not absolute.

You may want to just try deleting the thumb and the full image, then
re-Import them, and place them in your design again...kinda just start over.
Then Recalculate Hyperlinks and Publish.
