Graphics card problem......

I

Ian Stevens

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question, but here goes
anyway.
I just installed a GeForce 5500 graphics card, and everything seemed to be
fine. I got it for the twinview functionality. Suddenly, for no apparent
reason, the monitor display is VERY green, whereas the clone image on the TV
is as it should be. Changing color settings on the monitor makes no
difference, neither does changing color settings on the card.
Any ideas what might be causing this? My instinct is that the monitor is
dying, but it seems strange to me that this has happened right after
installing some new hardware.

Many thanks

ian

btw, running XP

Your instincts are probably correct. The monitor
is dying. Either try the monitor on another
computer or try a different monitor on this one
to confirm this.

Double-check the cabling, it may simply be loose, not
plugged into the card or monitor well. Also inspect the
cable contacts to see if any are bent, damaged, deformed,
dirty, etc.

You might also, ever-so-carefully wiggle the connector while
looking at the monitor to see if it makes a difference.

Thanks all for the help. Seem to have solved the 'green' problem now - bad
connection - to find another one rearing its ugly head. The colour
depth/number of colours seems to be wrong, The desktop and regular
applications look fine on both the monitor and the TV, but video looks
awful. It's pixelating and it appears there aren't enough colours to make
it look realistic. Any ideas on how to rectify this. I've gone through all
the menu options for the card and Windows that I can think of.
Thanks in advance.

"VIdeo" means what?

Movies?
ALL output to a monitor?

It looks pixelated on both monitor and tv?

We need you to back up and clearly state exactly what's
going on now, in detail.

No probs.
Video = movies. avi's, mpgs, wmv's etc.
The poor colour and pixelation appears on all file formats.
This is output to both a monitor and a TV.
The pixelation occurs on both the monitor and the TV. The TV image is a
clone of the monitor image, so whatever appears on one appears on the other.

Hope that's a little clearer.

Does the monitor output improve if you disable the secondary
output to the TV? In other words, is outputting to the TV,
causing it to be in low resolution?

Are you using newest video card drivers?

Yes, thank you.

Is it correct to assume your monitor resolution is being
forced lower so both the TV and monitor are at same
resolution? This is suggested by "pixelated" above. See if
your card (and driver) support independant resolutions, even
if it means not making one a mirror of the other.
You might also see if a program called "TVTool" has any
settings that help,
