The K7S5A motherboard doesn't do PCIe, only AGP.

It does PCI and AGP, just not the PCI Express. I think the latest AGP, the
nVidia 5xxx series with 256 MB RAM should be a decent upgrade.
I'm currently running my K7S5A with a GeForce2 with 64 MB, top of the line
for when I got it about 5 years ago.

Indeed -- he replied with that information to my query -- the
particular motherboard is about 4 or 5 years old, an excellent budget
board in its time. Supported AGP 4x, no more than 1G of either PC133
or PC2100 memory (two slots for each type), and AMD XP processors up to
a front side bus of 266MHz -- ie AMD XP2400 or so was the top end.

All in all, not something I'd suggest as an 'investment' opportunity
for Vista -- that is, if I was going to spend $100 plus for Vista, I'd
look to a more current hardware start point.

That being said, it would certainly work with Vista Home Premium with
1G of PC2100 memory and say an ATI 9500 adapter.

I 'retired' my K7S5A systems about 24 months ago -- moved to KT400 and
KT600 systems (AGP 8x, 2G of PC3200 memory support).

Since then I've moved from 754 X64 boards to 939 X64 boards which
support 4G of memory and PCI-X16, and now to the X2 boards which I
currently deploy. The 939 and particularly the X2's are very good
matches for Vista (though they are excellent with Win2K and XP as
well).

I saw GeForce5 cards with 256MB, and noticed they are AGP 8x.
Does the K7S5A only support AGP 4x? I thought they were the same... I
haven't bothered to check my manual yet.
I'm still running WinME, but my 64MB GeForce2 should be enough for WinXP,
and I guess I shouldn't bother considering Vista on that machine.
For a new machine right now I believe the AM2 boards are the best option.
I heard they've abandoned the 939 series.

Centre. I am in the UK. Thx
